Theatre Uncut
Political Theatre for Everyone Everywhere

Kings Head

Mimi Findlay: Chair of the Theatre Uncut Board of Directors

We are delighted that Hannah Price, the founder of Theatre Uncut, will be taking the role of Co-Artistic Director at the Kings Head Theatre alongside playwright Mark Ravenhill. Hannah’s conceptualisation of Theatre Uncut in 2011, when the UK was facing the beginning of austerity, is a great example of her dedication to encouraging equality and challenging injustice. Theatre Uncut was born at a time when political theatre was still on the sidelines, but political questions were starting to become a part of the mainstream consciousness. It’s a reminder to us all that the hard work it takes to bring a great idea into reality is always worth it. Since Theatre Uncut’s emergence into the theatre ecology ten years ago, we have seen a shift in the way that the sector claims its right to speak up for injustices, social inequality and discrimination and makes work accessible for audiences. It’s my personal belief that the work of Theatre Uncut has played an important role in influencing this evolution through its groundbreaking model and fearless approach.

What Hannah and Emma have achieved with Theatre Uncut over the past ten years is just extraordinary: initiating the rights free period for new plays so that these plays can truly be accessible to everyone everywhere; establishing the writing prize; committing to championing artists who bravely write political stories, forging countless relationships with high profile leaders across the sector to ensure that Theatre Uncut’s shows are able to be realised to the highest quality possible and engaging artistic communities in 32 countries across the world.

Hannah’s dedication to creating a world that represents us all will be a great drive for her programme at the Kings Head and I can’t wait to see how she flourishes there. We wish her the very best in this next step and we are excited to move into this new chapter of Theatre Uncut’s life with Emma Callander at the helm.
